About Open Source
The curtain rises here on software whose source is open to the audience. Open Source gathers products and businesses that publish their code for others to read, run, change and share. Some arrive as finished apps, some as building blocks for other developers, some as tools you host on your own servers, and some as models and AI components with their workings in plain view.
Each listing gets a reveal page: a first look at what the project does, who maintains it and how to get started. Pages appear newest first, so fresh launches take the spotlight, and visitors can sort by community votes instead. Votes can never be bought. Use the filters to narrow the stage, or step into a subcategory when you know the kind of project you want. Before you commit, check the licence, the maintainers' activity and the documentation.

Open Source: questions answered
- What belongs in the Open Source category?
- Products and businesses whose code is published for others to inspect and use. That includes finished apps, libraries, tools you run yourself and AI projects. If the project keeps its code closed, a different category will suit it better, even if the product is free.
- How do I choose between the four subcategories?
- Ask who uses it and where it runs. Apps are for end users, libraries are for developers building their own software, self-hosted tools run on your own infrastructure, and open AI covers models and related components. A project that fits two can still take one main category.
- How do I get my open source project listed?
- Go to /submit and paste your website address. An AI drafts the profile from that site, then you check and edit every field before anything goes live. Your main category is free. An upgrade adds up to 3 more categories for $5. Free listings wait about 6-8 weeks in the queue.
- How are listings ordered on this page?
- Newest first by default, so recent reveals sit at the front. Visitors can switch to sorting by community votes. Votes can never be bought, so that order reflects what people chose to back. The page includes products from every subcategory, and filters help narrow the list.
- What should I compare when choosing an open source product?
- Start with the licence and whether it suits your use. Then look at how recently the maintainers have been active, how clear the documentation is, and how easy installation looks. For self-hosted tools, also consider the upkeep you will take on yourself.
